SAFETYNET needs physiotherapists to interview

January 11, 2012

SAFETYNET is an academic and professional partnership building a culture of safety for spinal manipulation therapy. Physiotherapists on the spinal manipulation roster may be asked to participate in an interview for a study.

Physiotherapists who are authorized to perform spinal manipulation are asked to participate in a qualitative interview as part of a study related to establishing a safety culture for spinal manipulation therapy (SMT) in Alberta and Ontario.

The study is based at the Universities of Toronto and Alberta and will consider the perspectives of chiropractors, physiotherapists, osteopaths and physicians who incorporate SMT into their practice. Participation in this interview will simply be a conversation between you and the researcher about issues pertinent to SMT safety. For example, you will have the opportunity to provide your views on what should be considered reportable harms; to express any concerns you may have about liability or repercussions associated with reporting adverse events; to discuss the complexity and time burden of reporting systems; and to share your sense of how best to incorporate a safety culture around SMT into your profession.

If you are on the spinal manipulation roster you may receive a call from the researchers, Drs. Heather Boon or Linda Rozmovits.  Please consider participating. Also, if you are interested in participating but have not received a call from the researchers, please provide your name by email to Dianne Millette and your contact information will be passed on to the research team.
