Alberta's Health Professions Act, Physical Therapists Profession Regulation and bylaws are the ‘rules’ by which Physiotherapy Alberta governs and regulates its members.

Privacy legislation

• Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA) applies in almost all cases to personal and employee information collected, used and disclosed by physiotherapists in the private sector.
• Health Information Act (HIA) concerns the collection, use, disclosure, and access to health information in the publically funded health system.
• Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIP) establishes rules for collecting, using, disclosing, and accessing information or records in the possession of a public body.
• Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) establishes rules for the collection, use, disclosure, and access to personal information during the course of commercial activities.
