Physiotherapists
Permit Renewal
A physiotherapist's practice permit (license) expires September 30. Permits must be renewed by September 15 to avoid a late payment penalty.
Members on the general register renew their practice permit through their online account (see login on right of screen). Renewal involves:
- Verifying all information in your profile is correct.
- Reporting hours worked (or will work) between October 1 and September 30.
- Reporting details of professional liability insurance held (i.e., insurance provider's name, policy number and policy effective date).
- Confirming you are not involved in an unprofessional conduct matter outside Alberta or guilty of a criminal offense for which you have not been pardoned.
- Paying annual permit fee.
- Meeting continuing competence program requirements. For 2012/13 this requires successful completion of the jurisprudence module (if registered on general register prior to February 1, 2012) and Steps 1 - 3 of the reflective practice review.
Resignation or cancellation of registration
If you are not practicing physiotherapy in Alberta and do not wish to renew your practice permit on the general register you have two renewal options:
- Apply for registration on the alumni register. This is a non-regulated register for individuals not practicing physiotherapy in Alberta who wish to receive publications, serve on committees and attend meetings. Registration is voluntary.
- Cancel your registration.
If you choose either of the above options, when you return to practice in Alberta (regardless of the length of time you have not been practicing) you must reapply for registration as a regulated member, meet the registration requirements in place at that time and pay the application and practice permit fee. More information is on our website in the physiotherapist section, previously licensed in Alberta.
Members on the provisional register receive a paper renewal form.
