Labour mobility and you
Physiotherapy Alberta is committed to the principles of labour mobility and the movement of registered physiotherapists across Canada as articulated in the Agreement on Internal Trade and the Alberta/BC Trade Investment and Labour Mobility Agreement.
- When register or license types of the two jurisdictions are similar. No new requirements are expected with the exception of a review of previous discipline history and other administrative matters.
- If license types are not similar. The existing registration requirements apply and you must follow the process outlined in not currently licensed in Canada.
- You are not currently licensed in Canada. Must meet the existing registration requirements as the labour mobility agreements do not apply. Follow the process outlined in not currently licensed in Canada.
All applicants must provide:
- Registration checklist outlining how you will meet Alberta’s registration requirements.
- Reference from the jurisdiction you are leaving to confirm license status and discipline history.
- Evidence of proficiency in the English language.
- Evidence of personally holding $5,000,000 liability insurance covering all areas of practice.
- Photo ID such as a current driver's license or passport.
- Application and practice permit fee.
- Complete application form.
Applicants who passed the written component of the Physiotherapy Competency Exam but not passed the clinical component must also provide:
- Verification form completed by the Canadian Alliance of Physiotherapy Regulators to confirm current exam status.
- Supervision agreement.
