Under the Health Professions Act, participation in Physiotherapy Alberta's Continuing Competence Program is mandatory for physiotherapists on the General Register and a requirement for practice permit renewal, regardless of practice area, role or experience. The Act also requires Physiotherapy Alberta to monitor member participation.
Re-Design of the Continuing Competence Program – 2017/2020
Physiotherapy Alberta’s Continuing Competence Program is currently being re-designed to increase the range of options for members to demonstrate competence and incorporate emerging evidence on risks and supports to competent practice in health professionals. More about the re-design.
Until the new Program is launched, which we hope will be in the fall of 2018, all members on the General Register must continue to participate in the current Program activities.
Two components of the Continuing Competence Program
Reflective Practice Review
Reflective Practice Review promotes practice reflection regardless of role and encourages relevant learning to maintain competence and enhance practice. More about reflective practice review.
The jurisprudence module assesses your understanding and application of practice standards, legislation and rules to physiotherapists' practice. More about the jurisprudence module.
