May 2020 Leadership Message

In the last few weeks we have experienced unprecedented change in the way we work and live. We have learned new terminology and mastered new technology. We’ve learned how to read logarithmic graphs and how to don, doff, and wash personal protective equipment. It’s been overwhelming and exhausting. We’ve been longing for a return to “normal” life.

But what will “normal” life look like? Jody Prohar, our registrar, recently shared the following quote with me:

“When you come out of the storm, you won’t be the same person who walked in. That’s what this storm’s all about.” – Haruki Mirakami, Kafka on the Shore

The changes we have been living through will undoubtedly have an impact on our personal and professional lives in ways we have only begun to contemplate.

In the midst of economic and social chaos, it is hard to focus on the future but Physiotherapy Alberta, amongst other Colleges and Associations, has begun to consider the needs of members and the public in the months to come. We value your input and encourage your comments and feedback as we navigate our way through this storm.

On a different note, awards nomination season is upon us! Physiotherapy Alberta’s Awards Program aims to acknowledge members and students who contribute to the profession of Physiotherapy in Alberta. Please consider nominating a physiotherapist who inspires you in one of the three categories: Award for Excellence in Innovation, Pinnacle Award of Distinction, and Student Leadership. The deadline for nomination is midnight on July 19, 2020. Click here for details.
