The presentation will review the current context of cannabis legislation, pharmacology, and use in Canada. Attendees will have a greater appreciation for the evidence available for cannabis for therapeutic purposes, and areas of safety that could impact physiotherapy.
Cheryl Sadowski, B.Sc. (Pharm) Pharm. D., is a Professor in the Faculty of Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Alberta, and pharmacist at the Geriatric Outpatient Clinic at the Misericordia Community Hospital in Edmonton, Alberta. She has worked with Dr. Jones for almost 20 years, studying awareness of falls risk factors, and the implications of medications on function.
Allyson Jones, PT, PhD, is a professor in the Department Physical Therapy at the University of Alberta. She has worked with Dr. Sadowski over the past years performing various systematic reviews examining the functional implications of various medications and how they will affect physiotherapy assessment and treatment.
Both Drs. Jones and Sadowski have collaborated on interprofessional teaching involving physiotherapy and pharmacy students and will be working on further educational programs for physiotherapists in the future.
