An introduction to gait analysis terminology, analysis methodology, and application to patients. We will discuss how anatomy relates to gait. The philosophy discussion will help understand why people walk the way they do from the perspective of Function, Comfort, Efficiency.
Beth Watkins, PT, BScPT graduated from the UofT with a BScPT in 1980. She has worked at the Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital since 1983 and in the gait lab since it opened in 2002. She coordinates several outpatient clinics at the Glenrose including two pediatric orthopedic surgery clinics and the Children’s Limb Difference Clinic. She has a strong interest in gait, orthotics, and prosthetics.
Justin Lewicke MBA B.Sc. Kin. graduated with B.Sc. Kin. in 2002 and began working in the motion lab at the Glenrose. He completed an MBA in 2008 from U of Alberta. Justin has analyzed 10’s of thousands of footprints and thousands of gait patterns. Research ranges from footprint analysis methods to gesturing with the hands and head.
